A videogame intervention targeting smoking and vaping prevention in adolescents.
Developed by the play2PREVENT Lab and evaluated with funding from the Center for Technology and Behavioral Health at Dartmouth, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the CVS Health Foundation, smokeSCREEN is a smoking and vaping prevention videogame designed for adolescents ages 10 to 16 years. smokeSCREEN focuses on youth decision-making specifically, around smoking and vaping (conventional cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, flavored tobacco products), and includes strategies for both smoking prevention and cessation.
Results from our published study of 560 students demonstrate that smokeSCREEN has a significant impact on participants’ beliefs and knowledge about tobacco product use, including electronic cigarettes and vaping, and is well accepted by adolescents.
Most recently, smokeSCREEN was featured in SAMHSA’s 2020 Evidence-Based Resource Guide Series: Reducing Vaping Among Youth and Young Adults and meets the National Health Education Standards.
